A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of shooting a local photographer’s headshots and we had a blast! I know some people who would stay far away from working with other photographers because of the supposed “competition.” Over the years, though, I’ve learned over the years how so many things about setting my business apart and being content yet always striving in my business, and now photographers are some of my very favorite people to work with! They seriously are the sweetest! And Ashlee was no exception.
Ashlee Merritt-Cash is the owner and photographer at Antique Vines Photography. A photography business based in Forney, TX who specializes in families, babies, and stylized/high fashion. She booked me to shoot a promo video for her business last year and I got to meet her fun family and adorable little daughter. And I was so excited when I posted on Instagram asking if anyone wanted a headshot at the gorgeous candy store, Sugarfina, and she responded!
Sugarfina is famous for its candy walls (at least in my mind!) full of hundreds of cubes filled to the brim with colorful, boutique candy. And the more I thought about it, the more I wanted a fun, colorful person to come along and want me to shoot a fun, colorful headshot for them! And as previously mentioned, Ashlee was the perfect person. Between her dyed hair and colorful wardrobe, not to mention a fun and quirky personality, I think this shoot captured her in such a unique and perfect way.
We wanted this session to be very relaxed and more of a day-in-the-life vibe. I love it when creatives choose that option because when you hire a creative brand you really do hire the person behind it, so I believe capturing their personality and how they live their lives is such a huge part of that.
But my absolute favorite part was when Ashlee picked out a candy-filled unicorn piñata (found here if you’re curious). Unicorns are one of her little daughter’s favorite things so we had to get a picture of her with it so she could tell her little love she kissed a unicorn.
After we took all the sugary pictures we could, we headed down the Legacy West street to Starbucks Reserve Plano to take some more traditional headshots. Neither of us had ever been to a SR but it was fascinatingly gorgeous! The woods were so deep and warm and the windows so large. Apparently the menu was different too (I was too busy holding down our perfect picture spot to drink any. But next time!) and the drinks came in these Reserve-exclusive cups and mugs which made the experience very exciting. I got some of my favorite photos there as well!
Ashlee’s session was one of my favorite headshots to date. Fun, colorful, and yet sophisticated and intimate. I can’t wait to see what amazing things she will create in 2019!
