Miss Savannah has been one of the sweetest little girls in our studio and you can so clearly see her heart in her Daydream portraits. Her mom is a birth, family, and portrait photographer at Real Life by Rachel and Dar a Luz Photo and Film. She had moved to Utah from Dallas around the same time as us and so we really connected in photography and in life.
When Savannah arrived, we got her messy ballet bun hair and sparkly makeup done and she was so excited to get pampered. She fell in love with the newest Tutu du Monde dress in our studio wardrobe collection, and it was a perfect fit for her personality, vibrant stars and lots of pink!
Since these were Petite sessions where the set-up generally stays the same session to session, we always try to create something new in the session for every single little love that comes in. But Savannah created that for herself! She was brimming with natural posing ideas for herself and made my job a breeze! Photographing photographer’s kids is my absolute favorite because they often feel quite free to be their natural selves and that’s what I strive to capture in portraits. Can’t you see Savannah’s kind, bubbly, and ambitious heart so clear in her session?
And then it was time to dance! Miss Savannah was so eager to show off her ballet moves that she’d been working hard on in class. And I was so impressed! She knew all the arm and leg positions by heart and was confident in everything she did.
And her arabesque? Absolutely stunning! It made rose petals fall from the sky…
There always seems to be a moment in every Daydream session where the child gets lost in their thoughts and looks so much older than they actually are. You can see all of their thoughts and dreams behind their eyes. As a child photographer, it’s my very favorite moment. I can’t remember exactly if she posed herself like this or if I did, but this was that moment…
And then after some more giggles and twirling, it was done!
I always put something special together for the dreamers after their session is done, and this I had put together a bunch of special goody bags for all the ballerinas to take home with candy, bows, and lots of magic. My goal is always to get a picture of everything but I usually forget. Thankfully before they left we remembered to get an after-session photo featuring the petals, goodies, model and all the fun that went into this beautiful session.
And a couple of weeks later it was time for their reveal session! If you’ve read other blogs fo mine you know that I always create some mockups of albums and wall displays to help make the decision process a little easier. Savannah’s family decided on an heirloom Memory album with a blush linen cover, a Petite mounted print (a print that has been “mounted” on top of a material board to help it to be sturdier and last longer), and a digital gallery. Everything about her session was so whimsical and yet elegantly simple, and all the photos printed out beautifully.
Her mom told me that she was so excited about her photos that she kept asking when they’d arrive. They went home yesterday and you can actually see her reaction over on our Instagram and Facebook. It made me tear up to watch her so excited to see herself in print! I hope she can use these photos to see her daydreamer self for years to come.
Sending much love from our cozy Salt Lake City apartment. It’s been a dreary day here, but the weekend has officially come, so after some puppy training, it’ll be relaxing all the way! Wishing you all the same.
