Summer 2021 Chicago Recap | Personal Post | Chicago Suburbs Child Photographer

Good morning and happy Saturday!

These past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind, but oh how fun they’ve been! I traveled to Chicago to shoot two Daydreams and two baby Milestones for the first time since COVID restrictions have been lifted. This was right in the midst of finals and finishing up our new Allen Studio, but I was so excited to travel for clients again! Traveling has always been one of my absolute favorite things, and it’s an honor that I get to travel to my clients to capture their timeless memories. Be sure to read until the end for an update in my travel schedule!

But before Chicago, I needed to figure out how to fit four sessions worth of props, wardrobe, and camera gear (plus my necessities) into two suitcases.

Thankfully Calpak came to the  rescue. These suitcases are a dream (here’s the link for the carry-on and medium suitcase, the large one is sold out :(), and if any suitcase were to make this feasible, it would be this rose gold luggage duo. Several hours later, I managed to fit everything in only three bags including a dress with a long tulle train, our baby bathtub and two full-size blankets, plus half a tea set! I swear, I am obsessed with everything Calpak. (Follow along on our Instagram for more travel BTS on our next trip!)

My amazing husband was willing to wake up with me at 5:30am and drive me to the airport, where I watched the sun rise from my gate at DFW and answered some last-minute emails since the plane didn’t have wifi.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from my two-hour layover at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids, but this airport is going at the top of my list for favorite airports! The staff was so kind, there were only 7 gates, and the airport had a beautiful private outdoor patio area inside security that I was able to enjoy the sun in. I then boarded the smallest plane of my life (a 1-2 seat formation) and I was on my way to Chicago! (The plane was lovely by the way, albeit a bit short for many people who boarded).

I completely crashed that night, and then it was time to start day 1 of sessions. My wedding photographer friend, Tyrie, and I grabbed some Joy Bar smoothie bowls just like last year and headed to the studio space. We were in the same stunning space as last year, and I was so ready to create in it again!

First up we had Ella’s Daydream which was full of balloons and smiles. Ella’s mom (@Lipstick.and.Laundry.Blog) made us an adorable behind-the-scenes video on our Instagram that shows all of the fun we had that morning. We got super sweaty, but it was all worth it for the stunning portraits we got.

To end the first day off with a bang, I photographed  Abby’s 4 month Milestone session. Her and her parents were such fun to have in the studio, and miss Abby had the most incredible eye contact I have ever seen in a four-month-old too, so we got some fantastic photos!

Day 2 had another Daydream and Milestone, and Miss Kira and Miss Verity made my job effortless! Remember the dress with the train? Kira picked it  out to wear for her Daydream and she looked and felt like an absolute princess for her tea party Daydream. Verity’s One Year Portraits filled the studio with Elmo and her session couldn’t have gone better.

Day 2 was made possible by many sweets. If you know me, you know that sugar is my favorite food group, and when you’re a child and baby photographer that travels across the US, you get to try so many yummy things. This time, it was Lela Love Pâtisserie in Park Ridge. We got a dozen macarons for Kira’s tea party, but she didn’t eat all of them, so my amazing assistant (Tyrie again <3) and I had a tea party of our own after her session.

4 portrait sessions in 2 days, DONE!  To celebrate, I had my favorite dairy-free summertime dessert at Culvers, their lemon ice with strawberry syrup on top. My own daydream…

Tyrie and I spent the next morning at Glen Ellyn’s Blackberry Market and edited our sessions while enjoying some fantastic food and coffee. This place will definitely be on my list to come back to next time I’m in Chicago!

Which brings me to the announcement, that we’ll be back in Chicago in September, 2021 for a limited amount of Daydream child and Milestone baby sessions! We are now booking these sessions here, so be sure to reserve your little one’s session before they book up. See you soon, Chicago!
